There are still no new developments in the case against Vojislav Šešelj and four other defendants accused of contempt of court, according to Dagmar Albrecht, the monitor for the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT).
In her 12th monitoring report, covering the period from July 21 to September 18, 2026, Albrecht said she had received no response from Serbia’s Ministry of Justice to inquiries concerning the status of the case, which was referred to Serbian authorities.
Following the summer recess, Albrecht contacted the assistant minister responsible for international cooperation and strategic planning on September 9, requesting information on the ministry’s preliminary assessment of the case and proposing a video meeting. She repeated the request on September 16, but had received no response by the time the report was submitted.
According to information previously provided to the monitor, the case involving Šešelj and the other defendants remains pending a preliminary position from Serbia’s Ministry of Justice.
Albrecht was appointed as the IRMCT monitor on April 22, 2025, and submits her reports to IRMCT President Judge Graciela Gatti Santana.
The case concerns Vojislav Šešelj, Miljan Damjanović, Miroljub Ignjatović, Ljiljana Mihajlović and Ognjen Mihajlović. They are accused of disclosing confidential information concerning protected witnesses in proceedings against Šešelj.
Šešelj was sentenced in 2018 to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of instigating persecution, deportation and other inhumane acts.
