More than 400 young people from 42 countries are set to gather in Bochum, Germany, from October 12 to 16, 2026, for the European Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC), with a team from Kosovo among the participants.

Kosovo’s participation was mentioned by France’s National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) in its announcement about the competition.

The ECSC is an annual event in which national teams from across Europe compete in practical cybersecurity challenges, including Capture the Flag (CTF) exercises designed to test their technical skills and problem-solving abilities.

The 2026 edition brings together 35 European countries and seven invited countries: Armenia, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Kosovo, Singapore and the United States.

Participants will tackle challenges involving web security, cryptography, reverse engineering, and the exploitation of vulnerabilities in software and computer hardware. Each successfully completed challenge reveals a “flag” that earns points. Challenges solved by fewer competitors carry more points, rewarding participants who can overcome the most difficult tasks.

The competition also includes an “Attack-Defense” format. Teams must operate their own services, identify and fix vulnerabilities in their systems, and simultaneously attempt to exploit weaknesses in those operated by rival teams.

The event provides young cybersecurity enthusiasts with an opportunity to test their technical knowledge, develop practical skills and compete internationally in a field of growing importance.
