U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch an attack on Pickaxe Mountain, an underground facility linked to Iran’s nuclear program, as Washington seeks to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

In an interview with Newsmax on Thursday evening, Trump also said he would not use nuclear weapons in the war against Iran, which began in February with U.S. and Israeli strikes, Reuters reported.

Trump reiterated that the United States would ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon, claiming Tehran would use such weapons if it managed to acquire them.

“Their nuclear arsenal is buried under millions of tons of mountain. Now we’re looking at Pickaxe Mountain. We may have to go there. We’ll give it a try. We’ll destroy it quickly,” Trump said, according to Reuters.

Pickaxe Mountain is a heavily fortified underground site located near one of Iran’s main nuclear facilities. Its depth and protective construction have raised questions about the challenges of targeting it militarily.

Despite warning that the site could be attacked, Trump reiterated that he was not considering deploying U.S. ground troops to Iran.

His remarks come amid continued efforts by Washington to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as the conflict raises further concerns about regional security and the risk of escalation.
