The European Union has hosted an investment conference with Montenegro in Brussels, with European Commission Director-General for Enlargement Gert Jan Koopman describing the country’s progress toward EU membership as “unprecedented” and saying it is creating significant investment opportunities.

“It’s a pleasure to see EU and Montenegrin businesses presenting their investment plans in strategic sectors, including energy, digital technology, logistics and agri-food, at today’s EU–Montenegro Investment Conference,” Koopman wrote on X, sharing footage from the event.

Montenegro is widely regarded as the most advanced among the EU candidate countries in its accession negotiations.

On October 12, the EU provisionally closed negotiations on three additional chapters covering economic and monetary policy, statistics, and social policy and employment.

With this latest development, Montenegro has opened all 33 negotiating chapters and provisionally closed 21 of them, marking further progress in its efforts to join the European Union.
