Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has met Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker to discuss the government’s priorities for its new term and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Kurti said the talks focused on concrete opportunities for economic cooperation in energy, railways and digital technology, sectors in which Austrian companies and the Kosovar diaspora are increasingly investing.

“Four months ago, among other things, we discussed two concrete steps: integration into SEPA and joining the EU roaming area. We have now fulfilled the final requirement for the first, with the full set of necessary laws in place, while we expect negotiations on the second to begin soon,” Kurti wrote.

Kurti also welcomed Stocker’s statement that the European Union cannot be complete, secure and stable without the Western Balkans, and that all candidate countries should be treated equally and under the same conditions.

“Based on merit, the Republic of Kosovo is ready to advance on its European path, obtain EU candidate status and open accession negotiations,” Kurti said.

He also made a light-hearted reference to football, recalling Austria’s 3–1 victory in Vienna and the 1–1 draw in Pristina.

“After 3–1 in Vienna and 1–1 in Pristina, we’re also getting closer in football,” Kurti added.
