The director of Mitrovica General Hospital, Gëzim Berisha, has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
Berisha is suspected of threatening his wife, telling her that the same thing could happen to her as happened to Arlinda Zekaj, who was murdered on October 25, 2026.
Zekaj was killed by Albert Sylaj, her former brother-in-law, after she had previously reported her former husband, Jeton Sylaj, for domestic violence.
The murder of Arlinda Zekaj has sparked widespread public reactions and protests, with demonstrators demanding justice and better institutional handling of domestic violence cases.
Meanwhile, the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina confirmed to Dukagjini that Berisha has been placed in 48-hour police custody on suspicion of committing the criminal offence of domestic violence.
“By order of the duty prosecutor, a person identified by the initials G.B. has been detained for 48 hours on suspicion of committing the criminal offence of domestic violence. Meanwhile, the State Prosecutor is undertaking all necessary investigative measures and actions to fully clarify the circumstances of this case,” said Kaltrina Shala, spokesperson for the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina.
