The European Union has stated that the results of Serbia’s parliamentary elections do not change the foundations of the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, nor the commitments undertaken by both parties as part of the process.

An EU spokesperson emphasised that the dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders and that all existing commitments remain in force.

“The results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia do not change the foundations of the EU-facilitated dialogue or the obligations undertaken by the parties,” the EU stated in its response to Kallxo.com.

The EU also recalled that these obligations include those arising from the 2023 Agreement on the Path to Normalisation of Relations, as well as its Implementation Annex, known as the Ohrid Agreement.

“The EU-facilitated dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders. All existing commitments remain valid, including those stemming from the 2023 Agreement on the Path to Normalisation and its Implementation Annex (the Ohrid Agreement),” the statement further noted.

Regarding the possibility of Serbia changing its negotiating position following the elections, the EU spokesperson said it was still too early to draw any conclusions.

“At this stage, it would be premature to speculate about possible changes in Serbia’s negotiating position or their implications for the dialogue,” the response stated.

The EU expects Serbia to continue engaging constructively in the dialogue, honour its existing commitments and contribute to progress towards the normalisation of relations.

“We expect Serbia to continue engaging constructively, honour its existing commitments and contribute to progress towards the normalisation of relations. The EU stands ready to engage with the new leadership to ensure continuity and maintain momentum in the process,” the spokesperson said.

The victory of the Student List in Serbia’s parliamentary elections has sparked discussions about the future of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and its potential impact on the political representation of Serbs in Kosovo.
