The European Commission on Thursday disbursed €4.36 billion to Ukraine as part of a €90 billion support loan package aimed at meeting the country’s budgetary needs and urgent defence requirements.
According to a statement by the European Commission, €3.7 billion of the total amount has been allocated for macro-financial assistance, while €658 million will go towards the defence component.
The defence funds will be used to procure drones, missiles, radar systems, electronic warfare equipment and ammunition for air defence.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that the EU’s support for Ukraine would continue as the country prepares to face its fifth winter since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
The latest disbursement is the second of three instalments planned for 2026 under the macro-financial assistance programme, which amounts to €8.35 billion.
Meanwhile, according to the European Commission, a total of €16.4 billion has so far been disbursed under the defence component of the loan.
