OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis met with representatives of Serbia’s Student List and Acting President Ana Brnabić in Belgrade, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful transfer of power following the recent parliamentary elections.
Cassis said the meetings, held ten days after the elections, provided an opportunity to exchange views with newly elected Student List lawmakers and Brnabić.
“During both meetings, we discussed the importance of a peaceful handover of power. The OSCE stands ready to support Serbia in this transition, drawing on its extensive experience and expertise,” Cassis wrote on X.
The OSCE Mission to Serbia said it was prepared, in accordance with its mandate, to continue providing expertise and support in areas including the rule of law, human rights, media reform, security cooperation and democratization, for the benefit of Serbian citizens.
Switzerland provides €1.57 million for governance project
During Cassis’s visit, the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Switzerland also signed an agreement providing approximately €1.57 million for a new project aimed at strengthening accountability and promoting inclusive and transparent governance in Serbia.
The funding will be provided through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
According to the OSCE Mission, the project will support independent institutions in preventing corruption, promoting equality and improving access to information.
It will also help women and groups at greater risk of discrimination exercise their rights and participate in public decision-making.
The OSCE Mission said it remained ready to assist Serbia in implementing reforms and thanked Switzerland for its partnership and continued support.
