Kosovo’s Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, said on Friday that combating corruption requires unwavering institutional commitment, an independent justice system and sustained international cooperation.

Speaking at the EU–Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs in Budva, Montenegro, Gërvalla stressed that tackling corruption requires professional judicial institutions, the uncompromising enforcement of the law and stronger cooperation between countries.

She emphasized that the fight against corruption must include the verification of unexplained wealth, the confiscation of illegally acquired assets and accountability for public officials.

“Combating corruption requires unexplained wealth to be investigated, illegal gains to be confiscated, public officials to be held accountable for their actions, and criminal networks to find no shelter across national borders. No public position, no wealth and no political connection should serve as a shield against the law,” Gërvalla said.

She also reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to advancing judicial reforms, strengthening mechanisms to prevent and combat corruption, and expanding cooperation with European partners.
