Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has stated that no administrative or procurement procedure will undermine the government’s commitment to developing the Kosovo Police, following criticism over the absence of caps for newly graduated police cadets during their graduation ceremony.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 63rd generation of the Kosovo Police, Sveçla announced that the institution’s budget has increased by 60 percent, from €109 million to €173 million.

He emphasized that the government would continue supporting the Kosovo Police, assuring officers that they would not be left without the necessary resources and institutional backing to carry out their duties.

“I want to assure you that you will not be alone on this journey. Our support for the Kosovo Police and each one of you will continue. As a government, we have consistently supported the Kosovo Police to ensure you have the conditions, opportunities and assistance necessary to perform your duties to the best of your ability,” Sveçla said.

The minister also revealed that the total budget allocated and spent on the Kosovo Police over the past five years has reached €732 million.

“There are no administrative or procurement procedures, and there will be none, that can stop our commitment and the development of the Kosovo Police,” Sveçla declared.

Concluding his remarks, he called on police commanders and management to ensure that the government’s support translates into greater efficiency in police officers’ work.

“Your success in serving citizens is also our shared responsibility and objective,” Sveçla concluded.
