“Give us missiles and defense systems”, Zelensky despaired after the missile attacks

“We need more long-range missiles and air defense systems.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky repeats the call, after a rocket attack in the town of Vilniansk, near the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where 7 people, including 2 children, were killed and 31 others were injured.

In total, at least 11 civilians were killed and 37 injured during a wave of rocket attacks around Ukraine on Saturday.

In a Telegram post, Zelensky said that their cities and communities are suffering daily from such attacks by Russia, but added that there are ways to overcome this, including through the destruction of Russian missile launchers, the use of long-range weaponry and increased of the number of modern air defense systems.

“Decisions must be made quickly, Zelensky said, as delays mean more loss of life.”

The Ukrainian president posted images of Vilnius, where a large crater was visible as well as a number of bodies lying on the ground.

According to the general prosecutor Andriy Kostin, 2 rockets hit the town damaging infrastructure, a shop and residential buildings.

Western allies have provided Ukraine with a range of long-range weapons, including Scalp missiles from France and ATACMS missiles from the United States. But the flow of shipments from the US, which is also the main supplier of armaments, was stalled during 2024, after the aid was blocked by Congress.

Even the bill was passed in April and air defense systems along with missiles are arriving on the war fronts, Kiev blames the delays on loss of life among its own forces and the advance of Russian forces.
