Numerous discussions and meetings between Kosovo and Serbian leaders have yet to result in a final agreement and mutual recognition.
International stakeholders remain persistent on this issue, but Serbia has not yet been convinced to agree to a final settlement.
Recently, Charles Kupchan, a professor at Georgetown University in Washington, discussed the topic of mutual recognition.
In a recent interview, he stated that the recognition of Kosovo is a concluded matter.
He emphasized that regardless of who becomes the president of the United States, he does not expect much change from Serbia.
“Honestly, I don’t see much difference in the Serbian community, regardless of who becomes the president of the USA,” Kupchan stated.
However, Kupchan expects Serbia to face reality soon.
“I believe Serbia will sooner rather than later return to reality, which means normalizing relations with Kosovo and ending its flirtation with Russia. I can say with certainty that this will happen. Therefore, we need courageous leadership in Belgrade, something we have not seen so far.”
Given this statement, can we say that Serbia must soon face reality?
Qarri: Serbia Must Face This Reality
Political analyst Gani Qarri spoke on this topic in a statement for “Bota sot.”
He says that Kupchan’s statement is a strong message to Serbia, emphasizing that it has no other option but to recognize Kosovo.
According to him, Serbia must end its flirtations with Russia.
“The statement from the well-known American professor at Georgetown University in Washington, Charles Kupchan, that the recognition of Kosovo is a concluded matter, and that regarding this issue, whoever is elected the next president of the USA, he does not see a change in American policy, stating that Serbia must face this reality, is undoubtedly a strong message and powerful warning that Serbia must finally understand and give up its empty propaganda, and focus on recognizing the independent state of Kosovo.
Professor Kupchan made this statement convinced that Serbia certainly must, and has no other way but to return to real life, and the sooner it does this, the better it will be for Serbia itself, to finally focus on normalizing relations with Kosovo, return to Europe, where it aims to integrate, and end flirtations with Russia, which according to the professor, will happen with the arrival of another, more courageous leadership in Serbia, unlike those we have seen so far,” he said.
The analyst further states that there cannot be a specific date when mutual recognition will occur, but the normalization of relations is expected to happen regardless.
“How and when this recognition and normalization of relations with Serbia will happen depends entirely on the success of Kosovo’s state-building, the cooperation of political segments in the country for state issues, and the determined efforts of the USA for the stabilization and final normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, insisting on the closure of Russian intelligence centers in Serbia and the region, which aim to and are only waiting for the opportunity to incite instability and new conflicts, not only in Kosovo but throughout the southwestern Balkans, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, to North Macedonia.
Normalization of relations is expected to happen in any case, even for the fact that the Kurti Government, for the first time since the post-war period, has extended statehood, restored order and law, and fully stabilized northern Kosovo, just as in the entire territory of the country, has already removed Serbia’s only and most powerful leverage, where it pretended to have power, as even in the north, it is no longer anything, unlike the incriminated governments, which instead of fighting criminals and organized crime, collaborated with them and had turned northern Kosovo into a ‘reserve’ of crime and Serbian terrorist gangs,” Qarri told “Bota sot.”
Burjani: Kosovo is a Success Story
Meanwhile, lawyer Blerim Burjani, in a conversation with “Bota sot,” stated that Serbia knows Kosovo has been an independent state since 2008, but for mythological reasons, it does not accept this reality.
“As it was said and done on February 17, 2008, Kosovo is a success story. Everyone knows this, even Serbia knows this. But for their mythological, historical, and legal reasons, they deceive their people. They know that they no longer have anything in Kosovo, but for mythological reasons, they want to talk about Kosovo,” he said.
The lawyer further added that Serbia will recognize Kosovo in some form, but not fully and internationally.
“Serbia is being pushed by the West to recognize Kosovo in some form or model and to keep their dreams and myths about Kosovo as their flower, a mythological abnormality. Kosovo will not be recognized by Serbia for mythological reasons it has or the false history it has created, just as saying the Ottoman Empire no longer exists for Kosovo as part of it. So, there is nothing to this topic. Serbia will recognize Kosovo in one model, but never fully and internationally,” Burjani concluded for “Bota sot.”
