Three suspected attacks by Yemeni Houthi rebels targeted a vessel in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea.

Authorities reported that the guards of a private company fired at a drone that was heading towards the ship.

The Houthi rebels have not immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, although they have been targeting ships in the Red Sea for months due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas – a Palestinian group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union – in the Gaza Strip.

After a two-week pause, the Yemeni rebels resumed their attacks following the assassination of Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran, amid concerns that the conflict might escalate. Iran supports the Houthis, who are part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance.”

“Operations are continuing. Our operations against the enemy Israel and naval operations,” warned Yemeni rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi during a speech on Thursday, reports REL.
