Israel wants to establish relations with the new Syrian government, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday.
Netanyahu warned that Israel would respond forcefully to any security threat.
“If that regime allows Iran to re-enter Syria, or facilitates the transfer of Iranian weapons or any other arms to Hezbollah, or attacks us, we will respond harshly and make them pay a heavy price,” he said.
He emphasized that Israel does not intend to intervene in Syria’s internal affairs but aims to protect the security of the state, CNN reported.
Netanyahu also added that he has authorized the air force to strike military assets left behind by the Syrian army so that they do not fall into the hands of what he called jihadists.
