A major wildfire has erupted in Greece’s popular Halkidiki region, prompting authorities to order the urgent evacuation of residents and tourists from the coastal area of Siviri as flames approach populated areas.
Through Greece’s emergency 112 alert system, authorities instructed everyone in Siviri to leave the area and move toward Mola Kaliva, while following directions from emergency services.
The fire is spreading rapidly through pine forests and dense vegetation, fueled by strong winds and challenging conditions. Evacuation efforts are also being carried out by sea, while roads in the area are experiencing heavy traffic due to fire-related diversions.
Local authorities have described the situation as extremely difficult. The fire front has spread on both sides of the road connecting Siviri with the wider Kassandra area.
Firefighting efforts currently involve 52 firefighters and 12 vehicles, supported from the air by three aircraft and one helicopter.
The latest wildfire comes as Greece continues to battle severe fire conditions amid a period of extreme heat. Authorities have faced multiple major wildfires in recent days, including a deadly blaze in the Attica region.
The ongoing fires have placed significant pressure on Greece’s emergency services, with hundreds of firefighters deployed across affected areas as authorities work to protect residents, tourists and critical infrastructure.
