The captain of the Swiss national team, Granit Xhaka, cast his votes for the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Albanian midfielder surprised many with his selections for the top 3.
Xhaka voted for his Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Florian Wirtz, in first place, and for German midfielder Toni Kroos in second.
The winner of the award, Vinicius Junior, was placed in third by Xhaka.
Vinicius won the award for the first time in his career, after winning La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid during the previous season, playing a key role for the team.
