The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, quoted the late President Ibrahim Rugova during his speech on the shared objectives of Kosovo and Albania in their aspirations for European Union (EU) and NATO membership, as well as the enduring alliance with the United States.

Speaking in a joint session of the Kosovo and Albanian parliaments, Rama recalled a statement made by Rugova in 2004, emphasizing the long-standing goals of both nations.

“Twenty years ago, in 2004, President Ibrahim Rugova said something that still resonates with us today, reminding us that: ‘The common objectives of Kosovo and Albania are integration into the EU, NATO, and a permanent friendship with the United States of America,'” Rama quoted.

Rama stressed that these words reflect the shared path of progress for both countries. He highlighted the dynamism of the Albanian people and their potential to join the European family with their core values.

“Today, Albanians are on the path of progress. They are the most dynamic people in this part of Europe and the world. They have the historic opportunity to enter the European family with their values,” Rama stated.

He further emphasized the importance of maintaining the historical goal of unification with Europe, a vision shared by both nations. “These simple words encapsulate everything we need and serve as a reminder to never lose sight of our ultimate goal of integration into the European family. It is only through unity and solidarity that we can seize this historic opportunity and succeed.”

The Albanian Prime Minister concluded by reinforcing the idea that success in EU and NATO integration can only be achieved through collective effort and strong alliances, including the unwavering partnership with the United States.

Rama’s remarks echo the deep, historic ties between Kosovo and Albania, with both countries steadfastly pursuing their European future.
