Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who recently visited Moscow, of trying to help Russian President Vladimir Putin “make money to fund the war against Kyiv.”

Fico, known for his close ties to Putin, has been criticized for Slovakia’s dependency on Russian gas.

Zelensky stated that Fico is unwilling to find alternatives to Russian gas, which would secure “Europe’s energy independence.”

This, according to Zelensky, indicates that Fico “wants to help Putin earn money to finance the war and weaken Europe.” The Ukrainian president shared his views on the social media platform X, adding, “We are losing lives because of the war Putin started, and we find such support for Putin immoral.”

In response, Fico explained on Sunday that his unexpected visit to Moscow was “an answer to Zelensky’s stance on gas.”

Zelensky has announced that Ukraine will not continue the transit of Russian gas to Europe after the current agreement expires at the end of the year.
