As protests continue to grow in Serbia against President Aleksandar Vučić’s regime, sources suggest he plans to create violent incidents in Kosovo to divert attention from domestic unrest.

The ongoing protests in Serbia are reaching new heights, with streets packed by citizens demanding accountability from President Aleksandar Vučić’s government. Despite brutal police crackdowns and arrests, the demonstrations persist, largely led by students and supported by tens of thousands of Serbs across the country. However, with no respite inside Serbia, Vučić seems to be turning to his old playbook—stirring up trouble in neighboring Kosovo.

Recent reports from Serbian sources claim that Vučić is preparing to instigate violent incidents in northern Kosovo, aiming to shift focus away from the widespread dissent at home. These claims suggest that Vučić’s team is plotting another destabilizing event in Kosovo’s northern regions, particularly in light of the student-led protests. “Our reliable sources report that Vučić and his team are preparing to create another incident in the north due to ongoing student protests,” said one group of Serbian informants.

This tactic of creating disturbances in Kosovo is not new. In September 2023, close Vučić ally Milan Radojičić, along with an armed group, attacked northern Kosovo, killing a police officer. The group, armed with military-grade weapons, was repelled by Kosovo Police, but Radojičić and his associates remain at large in Serbia, under Vučić’s protection.

A similar attack occurred in November 2024, when critical infrastructure in Kosovo, including the Iber-Lepenc canal, was targeted, risking widespread power and water shortages, particularly affecting Kosovo’s northern Serb minority during the cold winter months.

Vučić’s strategy appears to be one of diversion, attempting to draw attention away from the internal crisis in Serbia by stoking ethnic tensions and violence in Kosovo, further destabilizing the region. As the political crisis in Serbia intensifies, it remains to be seen how Vučić’s provocations will affect both domestic and international responses.
