U.S. President Donald Trump made a statement following an incident in which a passenger plane carrying 64 people collided with a military helicopter with three crew members on board, causing both to crash into a river in Washington, resulting in dozens of casualties.
Trump said that unfortunately, there were no survivors, and that the focus has now shifted to a recovery mission.
“This was a dark and painful night in the nation’s capital and in our nation’s history, and a tragedy of horrific proportions,” he added.
“We can only begin to imagine the agony that you are all feeling—nothing worse,” said Donald Trump.
“On behalf of the First Lady, myself, and 340 million Americans, our hearts are broken along with yours, and our prayers are with you now and in the coming days,” he said.
“We didn’t know what caused the collision, but we have some strong thoughts and ideas,” Trump said.
“We have some very good ideas… we will uncover how this tragedy happened and ensure that nothing like this ever happens again,” he continued.
“The FAA, NTSB, and the U.S. military will conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation,” he added.
