Following the February 9 elections, where over 40% of eligible voters (around 800,000 citizens) cast their ballots, Kosovo now faces a complex government formation process. Based on preliminary results, no single party has secured enough seats to govern alone, making coalition-building inevitable.

The ruling Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) had aimed for 500,000 votes, but fell short of this goal.

Preliminary Election Results

With 99.72% of votes counted, the distribution stands as follows:

  • Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV): 341,672 votes (40.81%)
  • Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK): 184,499 votes (22.05%)
  • Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK): 147,827 votes (17.67%)
  • Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and its coalition: 62,309 votes (7.45%)

Given these results, the formation of a stable government will require negotiations and coalition agreements.

UK Ambassador Calls for Political Stability

As concerns grow over a potential institutional deadlock, Klan Kosova reached out to major embassies in Prishtina for their views.

Jonathan Hargreaves, the UK Ambassador to Kosovo, emphasized the urgency of swiftly forming a functional government and parliament.

“It is crucial for Kosovo to establish its new government and parliament as soon as possible. This will allow Kosovo to serve all its citizens and fully engage in the EU-facilitated Dialogue. The UK values Kosovo as a close and important partner, and I look forward to continuing our cooperation under the new government.”

With coalition talks set to shape the political landscape, the next steps in Kosovo’s governance and EU-facilitated dialogue with Serbia remain critical for the country’s political and economic future.
