U.S. President Donald Trump defended the accusations made by his vice president, JD Vance, who claimed that freedom of speech in Europe is at risk. During a press meeting, Trump expressed support for the statements made by his deputy at the Munich Security Conference.
“They are losing their wonderful right to free speech in Europe,” said Trump.
He also commented that Europe has a “big problem with immigration.”
In his speech at the Munich Security Conference, Vance stated that freedom of expression in Europe is being restricted and mentioned several cases as evidence, including the conviction of an Iraqi immigrant in Sweden for burning copies of the Quran and the cancellation of presidential elections in Romania due to allegations of Russian interference.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rejected JD Vance’s comments. Chancellor Scholz expressed his clear opposition to the statements made by the U.S. vice president in a post on platform X. Meanwhile, Pistorius accused Vance of having a “distorted perception of democracy.”
