General CQ Brown was dismissed due to his excessive focus on diversity, equality, and inclusion programs in the military, stated U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth before the decision regarding the General was made.
Hegseth expressed doubts about whether Brown had been appointed to the position because of his abilities or simply because of his race.
Although Hegseth had met regularly with Brown since the former Fox News presenter took up his senior role at the Pentagon last month, he openly questioned whether Brown had been appointed chairman because he was Black. “Was it because of his skin color? Or his skills? We will never know, but we always have doubts,” said the U.S. Secretary of Defense earlier.
Brown was the second Black officer to hold this post, which involves advising the president and the secretary of defense on national security.
However, this weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Brown’s dismissal, a decision made as part of a campaign to ‘clean’ the military of leaders who support diversity and equality.
“I want to thank General Charles ‘CQ’ Brown for over 40 years of service to our country, including his current role as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is a good gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish him and his family a wonderful future,” President Trump wrote on social media.
