The leader of the youth wing of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), known as the New Alternative (JA), Hannes Gnauck, has stated that he is “confident” that the so-called “protective wall” against the far-right will come to an end after these elections.
“I am confident that this so-called ‘protective wall’ will end after these elections,” referring to the long-standing position of Germany’s major parties to cooperate with each other to exclude the far-right.
He added: “The CDU (Christian Democratic Union) with Friedrich Merz will not cooperate with AfD,” but “there will be a CDU after Friedrich Merz, and this CDU will have to cooperate with AfD.”
