In an important diplomatic development, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized his country’s “support” for all initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
This message was delivered during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Prince Mohammed reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting any initiative that seeks a political solution to the conflict, including a potential ceasefire plan.
This development comes after a meeting in Jeddah on March 14, where Ukraine accepted a proposal from the United States for a 30-day ceasefire.
After Ukraine’s acceptance of the U.S. proposal, U.S. and Ukrainian representatives resumed sending weapons and sharing intelligence with Kyiv after a period of tension regarding U.S. policy toward Ukraine.
On the other hand, President Putin on March 13 expressed his preliminary acceptance of this proposal but emphasized that there are still unresolved issues that need clarification, including the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.
The Kremlin also stated that Putin expressed his willingness to continue contributing to the normalization of Russian-American relations.
The United States has made it clear that “the ball is in Russia’s court,” as they await concrete responses from the Kremlin regarding ceasefire proposals.
