A 90-minute phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has concluded, marking their second conversation since Trump’s return to the White House for a second term.
Earlier, the White House had stated that the call was “going well and in progress,” as confirmed by the Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff.
The Kremlin described the discussion as “positive and constructive,” with both leaders agreeing to initiate negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The unexpected nature of the call surprised global observers, though this time, other world leaders had the opportunity to speak with Trump beforehand.
French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed they had spoken with Trump earlier in the week, emphasizing that Ukraine should be placed in “the strongest possible position” ahead of any potential negotiations.
