The Assembly of Kosovo will hold the constitutive session of the new legislature on Thursday, August 6, as political parties remain under pressure to reach an agreement on the formation of the country’s institutions.
The session is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Assembly chamber.
According to the agenda announced by the Assembly, lawmakers will first establish a temporary commission tasked with verifying the quorum and the mandates of elected deputies.
The deputies will then take their oaths before the Assembly proceeds to the election of its leadership.
The agenda includes four main items:
- Establishment of the temporary commission for verification of the quorum and deputies’ mandates;
- Swearing-in of members of the Assembly;
- Election of the Speaker of the Assembly;
- Election of the Assembly’s deputy speakers.
The session comes amid ongoing political negotiations between Vetëvendosje and other parliamentary parties over the formation of the new institutions.
The election of the Assembly Speaker is expected to be a key test for whether the parties have managed to overcome the current political deadlock.
If the Assembly cannot be constituted, Kosovo’s institutional crisis could deepen further and potentially trigger additional constitutional deadlines linked to the election of the country’s president.
