The 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, and according to the “AP” agency, the death toll has now surpassed 2,000.
The United Nations and aid groups have warned that Myanmar could face famine and outbreaks of disease. The country was already struggling with a civil war that has affected it for years.
The earthquake had its epicenter near Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar.
It damaged the city’s airport, destroyed roads, and collapsed hundreds of houses and buildings.
Rescue operations are ongoing.
