The Minister of Finance, Labour and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, signed today a €5 million grant agreement alongside the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sergiy Maslichenko, and the representative of the regional water company “Mitrovica,” Bashkim Kurti.
This grant is part of the project for the development of wastewater infrastructure in the Mitrovica region. It foresees the construction of a modern wastewater treatment plant, as well as the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing network in the municipalities of Mitrovica and Vushtrri, including surrounding areas.
The project is expected to significantly improve living conditions for approximately 123,000 residents in the area by greatly reducing environmental pollution and protecting local water resources from untreated wastewater discharges.
So far, the total financing for this project has reached around €38 million, with the €5 million grant secured through Kosovo’s successful application to the Western Balkans Investment Framework. This agreement stands as a testament to Kosovo’s commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and ensuring high-quality public services for its citizens.
