Serbian businessman Davor Macura, owner of the Alta Pay Group, was turned away at Podgorica Airport on Wednesday after being served with a decision prohibiting him from entering Montenegro on national security grounds, according to the Bosnian news outlet Klix.ba.
Macura previously owned a currency exchange network and is currently chairman of the board of directors of Alta Bank. His business interests span the financial sector and real estate.
According to the Serbian weekly Radar, Macura’s business expansion coincided with the Serbian Progressive Party’s rise to power. The publication also reported that Alta Pay Group generated €59 million in net profit over five years.
Macura’s company, ABL Solvent, purchased the assets of the former Industrija Motora i Traktora (IMT) complex in New Belgrade for €70 million.
He also recently became the owner of the retail chain Idea Market, which includes the Idea, Roda and Mercator stores. Through his company Procoopac, he also owns the Hotel Union in Belgrade.
No further details about the grounds for Montenegro’s entry ban were provided in the report.
