The student-led blockade of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) headquarters has entered its 20th consecutive hour, with crowds continuing to swell in front of the broadcaster’s buildings on Takovska Street and in Košutnjak.
The protest remains peaceful but loud, with demonstrators using whistles and vuvuzelas to make their demands heard. Traffic has been suspended in Takovska Street between Kosovska and Svetogorska, and traffic police are securing the area.
Students have set up collection points for donations, reporting that they currently have most essentials, though they are still in need of small bottles of water.
Organizers have vowed to continue the protest until a new public competition is announced for the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) or until RTS is shut down.
Simultaneously, citizens are signing a petition organized by the United Education Front of Serbia, calling for an end to disciplinary actions against educators across the country. So far, between 1,500 and 2,000 people have signed the petition in front of RTS, and online signing will be available later this evening.
The protest is gaining momentum, drawing increased public attention and participation as the evening progresses.
