The Kosovo energy supply company KESCO has been fined €25,000 by the Agency for Information and Privacy following complaints about the delivery of electricity bills without envelopes. The issue raised serious concerns over the violation of citizens’ privacy.
The news was made public by Nol Nushi, a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), who stated that he had filed a complaint in March together with other citizens, denouncing KESCO for breaching privacy laws by sending bills unsealed and exposed. According to Nushi, the complaint was supported with photographs submitted by citizens who had received such bills. He confirmed that other complaints had also been filed by citizens before their group. The agency officially notified him that KESCO has now been fined €25,000 for this violation.
Nushi emphasized that this is the second fine issued to KESCO for the same offense and expressed that the amount is still too low considering the company had more than six months to address the issue and prevent its repetition. He ended his statement by saying, “Let’s see if they repeat the violation.”
