Police Operation in Kaçanik Linked to the Murder of Sergeant Muhamed Lika

The Kosovo Police launched a major operation in Kaçanik early Monday morning in connection with the murder of police sergeant Muhamed Lika, who was killed on April 1 at the entrance of his apartment building.

Police spokesperson Luljeta Mehmeti confirmed to KOHA that the operation follows intensive investigations by relevant police units, aimed at fully solving this serious criminal case.

“The Kosovo Police, through its relevant units, has initiated a police operation related to the murder of Sergeant Muhamed Lika in Kaçanik,” Mehmeti stated.

She added that further information will be released after the operation concludes.


Sveçla: “The state demands justice”

Following the operation, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, also responded, emphasizing the importance of justice in this case:

“Muhamed Lika, his family, the Kosovo Police, the people, and the state demand and deserve justice,” Sveçla wrote on Facebook.


Murder suspects still unidentified

Sergeant Muhamed Lika was murdered on the night of April 1 at the entrance of his residence. The Basic Prosecution in Ferizaj reported that security footage shows two young male suspects, who were not wearing masks but had caps on. However, the footage was recorded at night and does not allow for clear identification.

Chief Prosecutor Burim Çerkini stated that identifying the perpetrators is challenging, but investigations are progressing.


This case has been described as an attack against Kosovo’s security institutions, with top officials pledging that justice will be served, no matter who is behind the act.
