Olaf Scholz has officially handed over the reins of power as Chancellor of Germany, marking the end of his tenure after leading the country for several years. In a heartfelt message to the public, Scholz expressed that his service to Germany was the honor of his life.
“Serving as Chancellor was and remains the greatest honor of my life. I am deeply grateful for the kind words and recognition I received today at the end of my term as the ninth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany,” Scholz shared.
He also emphasized that, in a democracy, political positions are held for a limited period, underscoring the importance of leadership transitions in preserving democratic principles.
Scholz Wishes Success to Merz and the New Government
As he handed over the position to his successor, Friedrich Merz, Scholz expressed his well wishes for the future:
“I wish Friedrich Merz and the new federal government much success and good fortune,” Scholz added, passing the torch to the new leadership.
