President Vjosa Osmani visited the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria, where together with other world leaders she commemorated the horrors that took place there and renewed the vow that such atrocities must never happen again.
The head of state said that on the 80th anniversary of the camp’s liberation by American forces, the attendees felt the weight of memory and the strength of a pledge to always protect peace, dignity, and freedom.
“At Mauthausen in Austria, where humanity came face-to-face with horror, together with other world leaders, we gathered to remember—and to promise once more: Never again!” Osmani wrote on Facebook.
“On the 80th anniversary of this concentration camp’s liberation by American forces, we felt the burden of remembrance and the strength of the vow to always safeguard peace, dignity, and freedom. Let us be the voice of those who can no longer speak, and the shield of the values for which they sacrificed their lives.”
