The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, during his meeting in Tirana with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, also spoke about the European Union enlargement plan, with special emphasis on the Western Balkans.

Costa stated that he wishes to see the Western Balkans in the EU.

“We are living through very special times in the world, and more than ever we need to accelerate the unification of all of Europe, its strength and power, and this brings us to the current moment of enlargement—certainly for Ukraine, Moldova, and also for Georgia if they so desire.”

“But of course, also for the Western Balkans. The Western Balkans have already demonstrated their will to become part of the European Union. This is not a race, but my desire is for all six Western Balkan countries to move forward as quickly as possible with the conclusion of negotiations, to show results in reforms and to fulfill the necessary criteria,” Costa said.
