Nait Hasani, a survivor of the Dubrava massacre, has warned of regional unrest if former President Hashim Thaçi is convicted at The Hague.
While speaking about the suffering of Albanians during the war, Hasani emphasized that it is precisely the victims who are now facing the courts 26 years later.
“What is most important in all of this is that despite all the crime, all this massacre and genocide, we are still today facing courts, the Special Court in The Hague. Today we have there the people who led the war—Hashim, Kadri, Rexhep, Jakup, and others. It is our war that is being judged there,” said Hasani on the show Politiko on Kanal10.
He firmly expressed his belief that if the former KLA leaders are convicted, there will be unrest among Albanians throughout the region.
Hasani also mentioned his visit to The Hague, saying that the accused leaders still have faith in justice.
“For me, the trial of Hashim Thaçi… when we remember and talk 26 years after this genocide, they are being tried for our freedom. If Hashim Thaçi is convicted, who can guarantee there won’t be unrest in the region? Who can believe that our freedom is being put on trial? I believe there will be unrest among Albanians everywhere. Trying our freedom, our war, and our history—if they are convicted, I believe that’s what will happen. Absolutely. Who are they to judge us? Should our war be judged for Serbia’s sake? All those people will be called to revolt, and then disagreements and escalation are another issue. Revolt, disobedience—by anyone who can and believes in it,” Hasani said.
He also referred to Paragraph 35 of the indictment, which speaks of a Joint Criminal Enterprise, stretching “from the General Commander to the last soldier,” including brigades and units.
“Will all those soldiers accept being called criminals? We were there in The Hague. They have faith in justice and we give them hope and belief, and they give that back to us. We tell them this process will end positively because we know we didn’t commit crimes,” Hasani added.
