Albin Kurti, leader of Vetëvendosje, explained why there is no agreement with Fatmir Limaj, leader of the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma).

Kurti said it is positive that Limaj and Nisma have returned to the Kosovo Assembly and that Nisma should be a sister party to Vetëvendosje. However, he noted that Nisma’s coalition with Ramush Haradinaj’s AAK helped AAK pass the electoral threshold.

He added that while meetings increased trust and willingness to cooperate, the disagreement stemmed from Limaj’s insistence that the future cooperation depend on Limaj securing the position of Speaker of the Assembly.

Kurti explained: “I am in a pre-election coalition with Guxo and Alternativa. Giving the Speaker position to a party with only three deputies, when I have a party with double the number of deputies, would irreparably harm the architecture of our prior agreement with Guxo and Alternativa. This was not possible.”
