A large-scale international operation targeting drug trafficking networks has resulted in the arrest of 52 individuals in Italy and Albania, according to Top Channel.
The operation was conducted by the Antimafia Investigation Directorate of Bari in collaboration with Albanian authorities, with the support of Interpol, the Office of Security Experts in Tirana, and the Albanian Police. Coordination was ensured by Eurojust (based in The Hague) and Italy’s National Antimafia and Counterterrorism Directorate in Rome.
According to TGCOM24, authorities also seized movable and immovable assets worth several million euros.
The individuals arrested face charges, to varying degrees, of international trafficking of large quantities of narcotics, money laundering, and abuse of office.
In Albania, operations were carried out across multiple cities, including Tirana, Durrës, Vlorë, and Fier.
Further details of the operation will be shared during an online press conference at 10:30 a.m., which will feature:
- Altin Dumani, Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor in Tirana
- Roberto Rossi, Public Prosecutor of Bari
- Michele Carbone, General Prosecutor and Director of DIA
- Gianluca Forlani, Italy’s Eurojust representative
This joint action marks a major victory in the fight against transnational organized crime, reinforcing cooperation between EU and Balkan law enforcement agencies.
