Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, has called on Kosovo’s parliamentary parties to urgently overcome the political deadlock and form a new government. Her message was delivered at the end of her diplomatic tour of the Western Balkans, which included visits to Kosovo, Serbia, and North Macedonia.

During her stay in Kosovo, Kallas met separately with leaders of all political parties. In her public statement following the visit, she emphasized the importance of putting Kosovo’s future above partisan interests.

I encouraged all parties in Kosovo to break the political impasse and swiftly form a government. Leaders must put aside divisions and prioritize the future of Kosovo,” Kallas wrote on social media.

She also highlighted her message to Serbia, urging authorities there to accelerate reforms and make a clear strategic choice for EU integration. Kallas noted that she also met with young people and civil society activists, whose voices she described as crucial for democratic progress.

In Serbia, I called for a renewed commitment to democratic principles and accountability. The youth and civil society are essential voices for the country’s future,” she said.

In reference to North Macedonia, Kallas praised the country’s security cooperation with the EU and reaffirmed its place within the European family.

“North Macedonia was the first in the region to sign a Security and Defence Partnership with the EU, and is already benefiting from the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. It is essential now to stay the course toward EU membership,” she stated.

Kallas concluded her regional message with a unified call:

Leaders must put the future of Kosovo first. Divisions must be left behind.”
