Today marks 27 years since the tragic events of May 25, 1998, when Serbian forces entered the village of Lybeniq in Peja, brutally killing and massacring nine residents, and later targeting other men from the village.

The genocide committed in this settlement against innocent Albanian civilians on May 25, 1998, and again on April 1 and April 7, 1999, is considered one of the gravest crimes perpetrated by Serbian police, military, and paramilitary forces during the Kosovo war.

Both local and international justice systems have been accused of failing to prosecute and punish the perpetrators of the massacres committed in Lybeniq between 1998 and 1999.

The genocide carried out against the Albanian residents of Lybeniq remains the largest act of violence ever recorded against the population of this village in its entire history.
