The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MFA) of Kosovo has confirmed the detention of former Kosovo Police officer, Arbnor Spahiu, by Serbian authorities.

According to the MFA, the arrest occurred today around 9:00 AM at the border crossing between Hungary and Serbia.

Spokesperson Qëndresa Fazliu stated that Spahiu was traveling by bus with his family, returning from Austria to Kosovo when he was stopped.

Fazliu emphasized that as soon as the Ministry received information about the detention, Kosovo’s Liaison Office in Serbia submitted an official request to Serbian authorities via the Serbian Liaison Office in Kosovo.

“The request aimed to confirm the detention, provide clarification on the legal grounds, and obtain information about Mr. Spahiu’s location and current condition,” Fazliu said in a statement to Klan Kosova TV.

Former officer Spahiu is currently being held in the Detention Center in Kanjiža, in the Vojvodina region.

Kosovo’s Liaison Office in Belgrade remains in close contact with his wife and is closely following developments.

He is expected to appear before a preliminary procedure judge tomorrow, June 9, at 9:00 AM, in the Municipal Court of Kikinda.

The MFA also confirmed that it has informed the European Union Delegation in Belgrade about the detention and will continue to monitor the case through diplomatic channels, keeping relevant institutions and international partners updated.

Earlier today, lawyer Arianit Koci, who will be representing Spahiu, also announced the detention and confirmed he has taken on the case.
