Major changes could be coming to the command structure of the Kosovo Police. Several well-known senior police officials are reportedly being considered for new leadership positions as part of a potential restructuring that could affect the General Directorate, central departments and several regional directorates.
Unofficial information obtained by Gazeta Sinjali points to several possible changes within the police hierarchy, including the positions of Deputy Director General, heads of investigations, human resources, support services and border policing.
One of the names being mentioned for the position of Acting Deputy Director General is Taibe Canolli-Brajshori, known for her work leading the Human Resources Department.
If this move goes ahead, Agron Rukiqi, who has headed the Gjilan Regional Police Directorate, is reportedly being considered as her potential replacement.
Possible changes are also being discussed at the head of the Investigations Department. Fehmi Xhata, known for his work leading the Border Department, is among the names reportedly being considered as a possible replacement for Agron Nezaj.
Meanwhile, Kamer Jonuzi is being mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Fatmir Bajrami at the Support Department.
Another name featuring in unofficial discussions is Gëzim Dibrani, who is reportedly being considered for a position linked to the role held by Arben Paçarizi in the police’s international cooperation structures.
Possible changes at regional level, from Gjilan to Mitrovica
The potential restructuring would not be limited to the central level.
According to information obtained by Sinjali, Luan Keka is among the names being mentioned for a leadership position in Gjilan.
Such a move could also be linked to the possible transfer of Agron Rukiqi from his regional leadership position to a role within the General Directorate.
Another senior official reportedly being considered for a change is Afërdita Mikullovci, who has headed the South Mitrovica Regional Police Directorate. Her name is being mentioned for a position connected to the role currently held by Jeton Rexhepi.
Veton Elshani mentioned for head of Border Department
Another possible move being discussed is the appointment of Veton Elshani as head of the Border Department.
Elshani, known for his work as Deputy Regional Director of the Kosovo Police in North Mitrovica, is among the names being mentioned in discussions about the possible restructuring of senior police structures.
If implemented, these changes would affect several of the Kosovo Police’s most important sectors, including investigations management, personnel, border policing, international cooperation and regional leadership.
However, Gazeta Sinjali emphasises that none of these potential changes has been officially confirmed. The names mentioned are based on unofficial information about possible restructuring scenarios and should not be interpreted as appointments or transfers that have already been decided.
It remains to be seen whether these discussions will lead to official decisions and which potential changes will be included in the future command structure of the Kosovo Police.
