President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has strongly condemned the arrest of Kosovar citizen Arbnor Spahiu by Serbian authorities at a border crossing, calling the action arbitrary and unacceptable, Rks News reports.
In a Facebook post, Osmani compared Serbia’s actions to the chauvinistic practices of the 1990s, emphasizing that Serbia shows no regard for human rights, international conventions, or European standards.
“Serbia is not concerned with human rights, international conventions, or European standards. As becomes clearer with each passing day, the only mindset it aligns with is that of past-era dictatorships,” wrote Osmani.
She stated that the arrest of Spahiu was based on entirely false accusations and has nothing to do with the rule of law. Instead, it reflects the continuation of a regime’s practices that, according to her, refuses to confront its past and abuses the law to intimidate Kosovo citizens.
Osmani demanded that Serbia immediately halt its campaign of political arrests and be held internationally accountable for actions that, in her words, not only impede freedom of movement but also undermine efforts toward dialogue and normalization.
She confirmed that Kosovo is in constant contact with its Liaison Office in Belgrade and has called for a response from the Quint states and the EU Mission, to ensure that these violations of human rights by Serbia do not go ignored.
In conclusion, President Osmani urged Kosovo citizens to avoid traveling through Serbia, warning them of the risk of unlawful arrests and the destabilizing intentions of the Serbian state.
