“Now is the time for restraint, calm, and a return to diplomacy,” Starmer said in a statement.
In a strong response, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the situation as a “dangerous moment” in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Stability in the Middle East is essential for global security. Further escalation is a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and is in no one’s interest,” Lammy said.

Israel has launched a wide-ranging attack on Iran, targeting dozens of sites including Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In a media statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the operation aims to “reduce the Iranian threat to Israel’s survival” and warned that the operation could continue for several more days.
He also suggested that the campaign may be prolonged and difficult, warning that “Israeli citizens may be required to stay in protected areas for extended periods.”
