Bosniak MP Emilja Rexhepi, commented on the political deadlock and the blockade in constituting the Assembly of Kosovo, emphasizing that the current situation reflects a lack of responsibility and seriousness from some MPs and political parties.

Rexhepi stated that they are awaiting the decision of the Constitutional Court and are aware of the AAK’s proposal for a secret ballot in the election of the Speaker of Parliament. She noted that the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has enabled the issue to be referred to the Constitutional Court for resolution.

“We are waiting for the Constitutional Court’s decision, and we have seen AAK’s proposal for a secret vote. We also discussed how the President of the Republic, Vjosa Osmani, gave us the opportunity to address the Constitutional Court, and in the meantime, local elections are set for October 12, so let’s focus on those,” she stated.

MP Rexhepi added that the continued disputes and nominations of candidates for Speaker without reaching a compromise are signs of a serious lack of responsibility.

“If they continue to be so stubborn and everyone nominates a candidate for Speaker, they are showing a great lack of seriousness towards the state and the Parliament as a primary institution,” she said for FrontOnline.

She also reminded that the Parliament does not belong to anyone, but is an institution accountable to the citizens.

“We as a government work every day, but reason must prevail among the MPs who gained the trust of the people. Parliament is not a private institution belonging to any individual or political party; we are all responsible for this situation,” Rexhepi said.

In conclusion, the MP called on lawmakers to vote for the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Parliament and allow the formation of a government with a secure majority.

“Let’s vote for the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Parliament and open the way for whoever has 61 votes to form the government. If there is no compromise or numbers, we must go to elections as soon as possible,” she concluded.
