Israel’s representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Daniel Meron, has expressed “strong objection” to the speech given to Iran’s Foreign Minister at the UN Human Rights Council, just ahead of his meetings with European counterparts to discuss de-escalation, reports Rks News.

In a letter addressed to the Council’s president, Meron stated that granting Iran the floor undermines the credibility of the institution and constitutes a betrayal of the victims of the Iranian regime around the world. He accused Minister Abbas Araqchi of using the platform to promote the regime’s “despotic campaign.”

The Council confirmed Araqchi’s participation in the session, after which he is scheduled to meet with the EU’s foreign policy chief as well as his British, French, and German counterparts.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva has accused Israel of carrying out attacks that he described as “acts of war against humanity.”
