NATO chief Mark Rutte has declared that the new NATO objective is to quintuple air defense capabilities and buy 1,000 tanks.

Rutte described this increase as “an ambitious, historic, and fundamental quantum leap for securing the future,” aimed at creating a stronger Alliance.

“The goal of increasing NATO defense spending will see allies fund a fivefold increase in air defense capabilities, the purchase of ‘thousands’ of tanks and armored vehicles, and ‘millions of artillery shells,’” NATO chief Mark Rutte said on Monday.

Rutte also stated that the security environment has changed and added that if the Alliance does not increase spending and production, “defense will not be sufficient” for the coming years when Russia may have the means to attack another European country.
