Kosovo’s constitutive Assembly session began late today and quickly devolved into disorder, with the presiding officer, Avni Dehari, repeatedly ordering microphones to be cut for opposition deputies.
The chaos erupted when Dehari requested a name from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) for the Secret Ballot Voting Commission. As Vlora Çitaku from PDK began to speak, accusing Dehari of abusing his position, he immediately instructed the control room to cut her microphone.
A similar incident occurred with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Deputy Hykmete Bajrami’s microphone was also cut by order of Avni Dehari after she similarly accused the Vetëvendosje Movement (VV) of violating the constitution. When Dehari then asked the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) to propose a name for the commission tasked with electing the Assembly Speaker, Time Kadrijaj took the podium and declared, “Shame on you, disgrace to you all,” before her microphone was also silenced.
The session concluded with only 53 MP voting pro, others did not participate in the process, to be continued on Tuesday 1 July at 11 am.
